Action in support of "Stop Vivisection"

This is a Facebook event from MEP Stefan Bernhard Eck.

Dear animal friends, dear animal rights activists all over Europe,

On March 3rd this year 1,173,131 officially verified signatures of the citizens' initiative "Stop Vivisection" were handed to the European Commission.

Within the last two weeks e-mails and letters from big animal experiment laboratories or universities have reached MEPs in which they were asked to decisively speak out against a ban of animal experimentations or a reform of the Directive 2010/63/EU.

Now we should react! Let us stand up for the millions and millions of animals which are suffering, dying in animal experiments in Europe.

What the proponents of animal experiments can do we can do as well: Please, write to the MEPs why animal ...experiments are need to be banned and why it is important to advocate a humane and animal-free research.

Please, share it with all your friends!

Here it is a proposal for your e-mail:

Dear honourable Member of European Parliament,

Based on the citzens´ initiative „Stop Vivisection“ 1.173.131 officially verified signatures from EU citizens of all 28 member states were handed over on March 3rd 2015, argueing against animal testing. You may know that May 11th 2015 will take place a corporate hearing of several committees referring to the matter of animal experimentation.

I would like to ask you to decisively speak out against the perpetuation of terms of reference on animal research 2010/63/EU and to take an unmistakable position for a more humane research without animal experiments, as

• 92 percent of all potential pharmaceutical products do not hold a clinical trial due to deficient effects or unwanted adverse reaction, in spite of the fact to produce efficient and save results in animal testing.

• Half of those medicaments tested with animals which got a license were withdrawn, because later it turned out that they had serious and often mortal side effects.

• A clinical trial made by the Pharmaceutical Company Pfizer shows that identifying substancies that may activate cancer in human beings only had a hit ratio of 50 percent. A coin could be thrown just as well.

• Due to projections in Germany, up to 58.000 persons annually die because of medicament side effects. All such medicaments were tested on animals!

• The major part of the population in the European Union (according to statistics about 80 %) refuse to animal experimentation mostly for ethical reasons, as great pain, suffering, fear and permanent damages are caused to millions and millions of sentient laboratory animals for such a questionable progress. Generally in the end these animals will be killed. During 2011 in the EU 11.5 millions of sentient beings – disrated to a so called „animal model programme“ – were used up for animal research.

• During the past decades holding on to animal experimentation has impeded the scientific progress rather than pushing it towards the development of secure methods without animal testing. Techniques without the use of animal research nowadays present reliable results which are transferable to human beings and they are more cost-efficient. However those methods are rarely used because the abolitionists hang on to the outmoded „animal model programme“, in spite of the ethical problem and the arguements stated above, which can be clearly used against perpetuation.

Medical progress is important – but animal experimentation is the wrong way and should no longer be put into practice in a modern and humanely Europa.

„The deliberate transformation of a sentient being into a bundle of distress and silent desparation is a crime – or what else should be called so?“ (Prof. Dr. Robert Spaemann)

„Actually there are only two reasons to support animal experimentation: either you don´t know enough about this matter or you are earning money with it.“ (Dr. Dr. Christopher Anderegg, former experimentator)
„Vivisection is by my opinion the darkest of all criminal acts.“ (Mahatma Gandhi)

If you have any further questions about alternative methods of testing, the animal rights groups „Ärzte gegen Tierversuche“, the „Verein zur Abschaffung der Tierversuche“ and many other NGOs intensely working on this matter will surely answer.

With kind regards, your voter
